1. Use a good primer.
Yes I know this one is obvious! But it works!
There are many great primers out there and they all do different things!
If you have large pores (like me) I recommend a pore filling primer. For example the Benefit Porefessional or Australis CYA Later Pore.
Don't like the shiny look? There are matte primers too! Australis does a great Matte out face base.
If you feel you need more coverage I recommend trying a good BB cream. MAC have a Prep + Prime BB cream with spf 35.
2. Set your makeup.
This one is especially important if you are using a liquid makeup.
For more coverage try setting your liquid or creme foundation with a powder foundation.
For less coverage use a translucent powder to set your makeup.
There are thousands powders for all your needs! Some even claim to give a "instagram filter effect"
3. Have a good skin care routine.
Be sure to make your skin care custom to your skin! Everyones skin is different.
If you have oily skin don't try to remove all oils! Your skin is only going to try and compensate by creating more oil!
A good skin care routine will not only help your makeup last longer but will also make it look better.
4. Use a setting spray.
Setting sprays are designed to hold your makeup and place, and there's one for every budget! I personally prefer Model in a Bottle as they have 2 sprays, one for sensitive skin and one for normal skin. You can buy this from MakeupandGlow.
5. Exfoliate
Not too much though! Exfoliating your skin is a great way to help your makeup last longer. However.. DO NOT EXFOLIATE MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK AS THIS IS HARMFUL TO YOUR SKIN.
6. Splurge and Save.
This is one of my biggest makeup mottos. You need to learn what to splurge on and what to save on. How do you do this? Read/watch some reviews, it's that simple! For example I might wear a $50AUD foundation with a $2 lipstick. Or you might want to invest in a more expensive primer to make your more budget friendly makeup last all day! It's basically about finding cheaper products that are just as good as the expensive ones.
7. Use waterproof makeup.
Waterproof makeup is designed to last through sweat and tears!
8. Don't over do it.
The more product that you layer on, the more likely it is to fall off!
9. Be aware of how you apply your makeup.
While using your fingers saves you more product it doesn't last as long as using brushes as the oils from your hand transfer into your product. Also watch the techniques you are using. If you have oily skin try dabbing and patting the product on. Always work upward! (you don't want to be pulling your skin down)
10. You're going to have to touch up and re-apply.
If you're leaving the house at 9am and expect your makeup to last till 9pm without touch ups.. I'm sorry but that's just not going to work! Even celebs have to touch up their makeup (although they hire makeup artists to do it for them). Just pop your essentials in your purse with a compact mirror :)
Good information. It will be a great help.
